Milton Keynes born and bred Leigh Jamieson will mark ten seasons in Lightning colours with a testimonial game this summer. ‘Jaimo’ will be joined by his hand-picked line-up of team-mates from a career spanning more than two decades – not just in MK but also at Elite and international level.
The prestigious fixture will be played at Planet Ice MK on Saturday 20 August.
Testimonial games are traditionally awarded to players reaching a milestone in their career, allowing them to celebrate with fans while enjoying an evening of not entirely serious hockey and high jinks.
Leigh began his career here in his hometown progressing from MK Storm to MK Kings and then on to the Lightning – a member of the debut MKL team who scooped the Play Off trophy at the first attempt.
In 2003 he joined the Elite League’s Belfast Giants for five years followed by a season with Coventry Blaze, a period that also saw him play for GB at U20 and senior level including the first of two Olympic Games pre-qualifying campaigns.
Leigh returned to MK in 2009, a member of the team that won the league title that season. In his last ten seasons with Lightning he’s iced in no fewer than 576 competitive games playing in defensive as well as offensive roles.
“I want this to be a testimonial that people remember as one of the best they’ve ever been to,” said Jaimo. “It’s been an honour wearing the MK jersey for so many years and it led to Elite and GB hockey for me. It’ll be hard work deciding who to pick for the testimonial team because I’m spoilt for choice!”
Jon Payne of MKL said, “Our fans can stand by for some absolute legends of MK and British hockey to be in the building on the night, when you think of who Leigh’s played alongside over the years. He’s determined it’s going to be memorable and we’re going to pull out all the stops to give him, his family and our fans a night to remember.”
Dedicated ‘Jaimo testimonial’ social media channels will be launched very soon to help fans stay up-to-date with news and player announcements ahead of the game, so watch out for those appearing! Tickets will go on sale in early August but make sure you keep Saturday 20 August free for what we know will be an unmissable celebration!
